Christmas Activities for Kids

Hey there, guys! I hope you’re all feeling the holiday spirit because Christmas is just around the corner. As a parent, I can’t help but get excited about all the fun activities we have in store for our kids during this festive season. So, let’s dive right into some fantastic Christmas activities for kids that will make this holiday season memorable! I’ve written down some activities here that my kids love and aren’t on all the other lists but just for the sake of completeness: Christmas movie night, baking and decorating cookies, salt dough ornaments,  see the christmas lights, visit Santa, drink Hot Chocolate and read some christmas Books 🙂

1. Coloring their own Gingerbread Playhouse

My Kids love coloring and I can’t even tell you how much they loved coloring their own playhouses. I got one for each to make sure they don’t argue (ok, they argued about the pens)! But they were busy for hours and hours while I did the household chores or put the finishing touches on the Christmas decorations. And after that they were playing with it until the New Year. I will definately buy them again this Christmas!

2. Elf on the Shelf Adventures

The mischievous Elf on the Shelf is a beloved tradition in our household. Each day in December, the Elf moves to a new spot in the house and gets into all sorts of funny situations. Your kids will have a blast trying to find the Elf every morning and giggling at its antics. Our Elf always gives our Kids little tasks, like baking cookies, decorate their home etc. It’s a fun way to build excitement as Christmas approaches.

You can find many of Elf on the Shelf Ideas in the Book and related Content on the Internet but I will try to post my ultimate List as soon as possible! 🙂

3. Deck the Halls Together

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is decorating the house. It’s a fantastic way to get the whole family involved, and kids absolutely love it. We start by putting up the Christmas tree and then let the kids go wild with ornaments, lights, and tinsel. Don’t forget the stockings for Santa to fill! This is a great opportunity to create cherished memories and a festive atmosphere at home. If you are kids are too little for this (e.g. Toddlers) you can give them their own tree to decorate.

4. Gingerbread House Extravaganza

There’s something magical about building a gingerbread house. It’s a delightful mix of crafting and baking, and it’s something that both kids and adults can enjoy. You can either bake the gingerbread from scratch or use a kit, depending on your preference. Once you have the walls and roof ready, let your kids get creative with colorful candies, frosting, and their imagination. Plus, it’s a tasty treat when they’re done!

5. Coloring Windows

As I already told you my Kids love coloring. So, you know what’s super fun during the holiday season? Coloring windows! It’s a fantastic Christmas activity for kids. Grab some washable window markers or crayons, and let your creative juices flow. You can draw snowflakes, Santa, reindeer, or whatever jingles your bells. If you’d rather paint by template, just print out a Christmassy graphic and stick it on the outside of the window (be sure to print it in reverse). It’s a cool way to bring some festive vibes to your home, and it’s totally okay if you make a little mess. Plus, it’s way better than boring old paper. Let’s get those windows looking holly and jolly!

6. Indoor Snowball Fight

Who needs real snow when you can have a snowy showdown indoors? Indoor snowball fights with the kids are a blast! The living room becomes a war zone, with giggles and shouts echoing everywhere. We duck behind couches and coffee tables, launching snowballs at each other like the pros. It’s always so much fun and these artificial snowballs below that we have make a good decor as well. But you can also just use socks, or crumpled up newspaper.

7. DIYs DIYs and more DIYs

My Kids really love DIY projects, and I can totally see why! It’s like having your own creative playground. You get to make stuff from scratch, and there’s something magical about that. Plus, it’s a chance to get your hands dirty (literally) and be in charge of your masterpiece. It’s all about exploring, experimenting, and letting your imagination run wild. And let’s not forget the satisfaction of showing off your handcrafted wonders to your buddies. DIY is where fun and learning collide! Here are some of the DIYs we did personally over the last years and absolutely loved:
